But Mandakini loves Mareecha. Hence Mareecha and Idumban often cross swords with each other. Mareecha in the guise of a deer to attract Sita is killed by Lord Rama and according to a curse turns into a rock. Years later, cut to the present day, he is freed from this curse, when Sita, a young woman falls on this rock. Mareecha takes it upon himself to protect Sita at all times.
